Christmas Eve Services

December 24, 2020

Description

Hello my friends, I hope and pray that all is well with you.

As we enter the Advent Season, I want to share with you our plans for celebrating this Holy time. We are going to do things differently this year in order to maintain safety for all of our church family. Listed below you will find several different worship options and formats to meet a variety of needs and comforts.

Our Sanctuary services will be at 10:30 a.m. only during the month of December. The Summit Worship in Wesley Hall will continue at 9 a.m.

This year, we have separated the special Hanging of the Greens and our Cantata musical elements to have each Sunday of Advent include choral musicians and instruments for each service. We are doing this to minimize the number of people in the space, and minimize the time spent singing.

Our goal is to Celebrate Jesus and stay safe at the same time! Choir members have special "Singer's Resonance Masks" that are triple layered, with charcoal filters. All of us will wear masks, and keep as much social distance as possible.

For Advent, November 29 will have "Advent Cry" with Dr. Chris Alkire on piano, Vickie Carr playing harp on our wonderful Mohler Organ. We will also have Flutes, Horns and percussion.

December 6, the second Sunday of Advent, Bells, Brass and Youth will play and sing, as well as part of the choir will sing "Celtic Advent Carol" with Tanya Eckstein on flute.

December 13, a choir ensemble will sing, "Every Valley" and "Dance into the Light." There will be strings and percussion. Three graduating seniors will join with liturgical dance.

December 20, the final choral small group will sing "The Rose Tree Carol" with Mary Scott Smith playing piano, woodwinds and percussion. Christmas and Advent at Williams will be different this year; As my friend always said, "We are just making memories!”

Our Traditional Christmas Eve worship services will be held at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., outside at the Pavilion this year. In recognition of these historically being our largest services we will be holding these outside, where we are able to sing carols, with masks and social distance. You are welcome to stay in your cars or to bring lawn chairs. When you enter the parking lot you will be given a bag with carols to sing and a candle to light. Please bring matches or a lighter with you.

The 4 p.m. service will focus on the children. We will read lessons from Luke, sing Carols and the children will participate in a Christmas pageant. All children interested in participating, please meet Ms. Courtney and Ms. Brenda at 3:45 p.m. in the Youth Center - no preparation necessary.

For the 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service, all choir members, that are in town, will sing "Lo, How a Rose" with Mary Scott on the piano. We have special candles for each person, and words to the carols that will be in a small bag provided upon arrival.

Rev. Greg Morgan is leading two Christmas Eve services at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. The Summit Christmas special will be at 6 p.m. as an online only broadcast. It will be available on YouTube and the church Facebook page, links will be sent out via church communication as well as listed on our Williams Weekly Newsletter. The 11 p.m. service will be held in the Sanctuary to include candlelight and communion. This is typically our lowest trafficked service, allowing us ample space to socially distance. Masks are still highly encouraged.

It is our belief that doing things this way this year will allow as many people to experience the joy of the season and not place themselves in danger from the virus. I also believe that this is an opportunity to celebrate the season and worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in simplicity and reflection on where we have been this year.

I want to reaffirm to you the commitment of your church to not only safeguard your health to the extent possible, but still allow us to worship together. Remember, to stay home if that makes you more comfortable. Your health is our priority. I pray this is the most beautiful Christmas season ever, even if it is different.

Blessings, Jesse
